Having worked in restaurants several times, I know that people often leave things behind on the table meant for the server. Some of those things are welcome and I try to leave something a server will find uplifting. I call them my "restaurant missives." The small business card sized missives I leave are often thought provoking one-liners, words of encouragement or quotes by famous people meant to bring hope.

I like to think that leaving these thought changing one liners will brighten someone's day. If I can leave a little something besides a good tip that changes someone's way of thinking, I'm happy to do so. Maybe the thought is the best tip they get all day, after all.

Here is a sampling of some of the one liners I've left behind and I hope you find something uplifting or thought changing in them.

"A cyclone gets its power from the calm at its center."

"You have more to learn from what's in front of you than from whatever it is you seek."

"To lose heart is to lose everything."
