The mid-winter sun
Rises slowly in the east
The sky fades
From velvet black to purple
Then red and pink and blue

Boreas's breath cuts sharply
Howling in from the north
Threatening to freeze
Skin that is uncovered
And trying to get that which is not

Anticipation
We hear them in the west
Your calls entice
Them to seek us out
They circle excitedly hearing your promise

It is almost time
Familiar green flashes in the south
Iridescent
Shimmer and flat orange feet
Frantic shots and the hunt is over
But only for now
